How to increase or lower Corruption
Corruption is the Vampirism progression gate. It rises when Coen drinks blood and unlocks stronger vampire perks; it is separate from the shared skill-point pool.
Increase Corruption quickly
- Use Voracious Bite on animals and hostile enemies. Search forests and settlement edges with Focus Mode; red outlines identify viable prey.
- Feed during fights after a target is subdued. This restores health and advances Corruption without spending a separate time segment.
- Drink named Vrakhiri blood from Ambrus, Bakir, or Xanthe after their duels. These choices grant Scarlet Shield, Shadowstorm, or Blood Surge directly and raise Corruption substantially.
- Use blood vials from Murohn dens and quests such as Xanthe’s Recruiters or Lost Blood when you need a controlled unlock.
Animal and enemy blood is the safest farming source. Feeding on named or friendly NPCs can remove their questline, alter dialogue, or permanently change a relationship, so save first.
Lower or hold Corruption
The retail guides document reliable ways to increase Corruption, but do not document a universal “cleanse” action that refunds previous feeding. To keep it low, stop feeding, avoid unnecessary named blood, and use Swordmastery/Witchcraft for recovery and damage. Do not trust an unverified percentage threshold; read the current character panel and save before major story choices.
Lower Corruption is therefore a restraint strategy rather than a guaranteed reset. If a route requires a specific Vampirism perk, raise Corruption only after completing human-facing conversations and romance scenes that you do not want to risk.
What Corruption changes
Higher levels open more Vampirism perks and make night combat and traversal stronger. The meter also represents Coen’s relationship with his vampiric nature, so named feeding and uncontrolled hunger can affect social or quest outcomes. Corruption does not replace manuals: Swordmastery and Witchcraft still require their world-found or vendor-bought manuals.
Safe planning route
- Keep a manual save before the first named-blood choice.
- Feed on wildlife or hostile enemies until the next ability unlocks.
- Spend daytime on Anca, Crake, Lacra, and human settlement conversations before raising the meter again.
- Save before every boss drain; killing preserves a different reward path.
