PC stutter, crashes, and shader compilation fixes
Hotfix 1.0.2 lists three PC issues still under investigation: stutter in Windowed/Borderless mode, crashes while compiling shaders, and controller dead-zone/sprint input problems. Start with the official workarounds before changing advanced settings.
Fix stutter first
- Update the game to the latest build.
- Set Display Mode to Full Screen. Rebel Wolves specifically recommends this for Windowed/Borderless stutter.
- Let the first shader compilation finish completely after a driver or game update; do not repeatedly force-close the process during compilation.
- Install the game on an SSD and close overlays, recording tools, and hardware monitors for a clean test.
- If frame pacing is still poor, lower volumetric effects, shadows, and post-processing before reducing texture quality. Test one setting at a time.
Shader compilation crash
If the game crashes before reaching the menu while compiling shaders, update your motherboard BIOS/UEFI to the latest stable release. The official hotfix links this issue to the Oodle decompression guidance from RAD Game Tools. Follow your motherboard maker’s recovery instructions, keep the system on stable power, and do not interrupt a firmware update.
After the BIOS update, reboot, verify the game files, and allow shader compilation to complete once. If it still crashes, record the CPU, motherboard BIOS version, GPU driver, and crash-report text before contacting support.
Driver and cache checklist
- Install a current GPU driver, then reboot.
- Verify Steam files after every failed patch or interrupted shader build.
- If the driver offers a shader-cache size option, use the default or unlimited setting for testing; restore your preferred value after reproducing the issue.
- Remove third-party mods and injectors before reporting a crash.
- Keep the game on an SSD with free space for shader and save files.
Controller sprint and input issues
Hotfix 1.0.2 adjusts PC controller dead zones and sprint input. If sprint still stops when changing direction, test a slightly lower controller sensitivity/dead-zone setting, reconnect the pad, and compare keyboard input. This is separate from shader crashes.
What to send support
Include the installed game build, Windows version, CPU/GPU, motherboard and BIOS version, driver version, display mode, whether the crash occurs during compilation or gameplay, and the last action before the crash. Avoid deleting saves or logs until support confirms they are not needed.
