Should you kill the soldiers in The Firebrand?

Short answer: Leave them alive by saying “I'm Mirto” when you reach Mert's Mill at night. Killing them triggers Renna's warning that she will be punished as a rebel collaborator.

Choice and consequence

The encounter follows the Vlad's Hut investigation in The Firebrand. At night, soldiers ambush Coen at the mill and demand his identity.

| Choice | Immediate result | Route impact | | --- | --- | --- | | Say “I'm Mirto” | The confrontation can end without combat | Preserves Renna's safer outcome and the Mert rescue route | | Kill the soldiers | Combat ends the encounter | Renna emerges and says she will be punished as a rebel collaborator |

The page's fixed quest costs are one segment to reach the mill, one to speak with the overseer, and two to question Mert's corpse. Mert himself must be reached before dawn on the fourth day after the objective or he dies.
