Steam Deck performance
The Blood of Dawnwalker is a demanding Unreal Engine 5 open-world RPG. No official Steam Deck Verified rating is published yet, and current independent tests should be treated as build-specific rather than a guarantee for every SteamOS or Deck OLED setup.
What testing shows
Pre-launch and launch-week testing commonly reports below 30 FPS on Steam Deck, with open areas and Svartrau city dropping toward the low 20s even at low settings. Smaller interiors can feel smoother. These figures vary by patch, TDP, Proton version, and whether the test completed shader compilation.
Recommended starting preset
- Use the Deck’s native 1280×800 resolution.
- Set the game to Low or Lowest, then use FSR/XeSS Performance only if the image remains readable.
- Cap at 30 FPS (or 24/25 if frame pacing is steadier on your unit); do not chase 60 FPS.
- Keep textures as high as VRAM allows, but lower shadows, volumetrics, foliage, and post-processing first.
- Disable unnecessary overlays and let the first shader compilation finish after updates.
- Keep at least 15–20 GB free on the SSD for shader cache and temporary files.
Combat and battery advice
Unstable frame pacing is most noticeable during directional blocks, Xanthe’s teleport/orb phases, and crowded city fights. Use a stable cap, lower screen shake, and avoid aggressive frame-generation plugins during combat because added latency can make parries less reliable. A 20–25 W performance profile may improve consistency at the cost of battery life and heat; monitor temperatures rather than forcing a constant maximum.
When to use another device
If the game remains below a stable 30 FPS after the launch patch and shader compilation, a desktop PC, GeForce NOW, or a more powerful handheld is the better choice for Duelist combat. Cloud streaming requires a stable connection and does not remove input latency.
The official PC requirements target desktop hardware and do not promise Steam Deck performance. Re-test after every game, Proton, or driver update and record the build, preset, upscaler, TDP, and location with any benchmark.
